Knowledge is Power

Today I took Tiny (Sydney) to her Pediatrician (Nurse Practitioner) for her three month "well baby" check up. I chose the very earliest appointment available which meant Tiny would most likely be evaluated by a Nurse Practitioner and, for the record, is more than ok by me.

Cari, the NP, came in to do the physical. I make it a habit to never let health care personnel know that Money Bags and I work in the medical field. Mainly, it is because I realize how important teaching is. And goodness knows, I have a lot to learn. My job, as an Emergency Room Nurse, allows me to mostly deal with adults. Only on rare occasions is there a pediatric emergency. I feel like, if the cat was out of the bag, "they" might make assumptions about our knowledge in medicine. For me, medical technology is ever-changing and for that reason, I asked every possible question in the book of pediatrics. Here is what I learned from today's visit.

I learned that Tiny is bigger proportionally in regards to most babies that are her same age. I got the ok to mix rice cereal in her baby formula to try to alleviate spit up. I know that in one month Syd Vicious (Sydney) will need an x ray of her hips because like her, many babies who lie breech in the uterus have problems with dislocation when they are older. You see, even as a seasoned nurse, I never knew these things before.

How cute is she!!! I really do tend to forget how small newborns are, or that I will have another one that small this year! My daughter also was seen alot by the nurse practioner in her dr's office, and we love her :)
