Its Her Birthday!
At 10:28 tonight she will be 3 years old. Wow. As I write this post I realize that 3 years ago I was waking up from my usual morning nap determined to have a baby by walking 75 laps around Concord Mills. I remember that I was worried because I didn't have a thing to wear to the hospital that would cover my huge belly. I threw on a sweat shirt and pants that were 3 times too large and headed for Walmart. I bought a three pack of mens xxxl shirts and an 8 pack of the biggest sized underwear in the store just in case she decided to stay in the womb another day.
On the third lap at Concord Mills I felt pressure but no pain. People were starting to look at me strangely because I was walking like a pregnant woman in labor. I ignored them. I was used to it. I had been trying to go into labor for a month before this day by walking 75 laps at Concord Mills.
At 4:30 and after the seventh lap I decided to go to the OB for a cervix check. I went into the restroom and changed into my Walmart best.
At 5:25 PM Dr. Warren Overby announced that I was 5 CM dilated and requested a wheelchair for me. I refused. My OB's office was in the hospital. I pleaded with him to just let me walk there by myself. He was hesitant, but agreed.
I took the steps. Three flights. Remi and I together as one for the last time. I went to my car and sat there for a while. I cranked it and drove around the hospital parking lot once. I parked the car and then prepared myself for the birth of my daughter. I held my pregnant belly in both hands for at least 20 minutes. I didn't feel any pain with the contractions. It was so strange.
I went inside, got an epidural for no reason, and she was born. Just like that.
